About the Artist

A Little About Me...
I grew up in Northern Minnesota and summer vacations with my family were spent at our cabin on Island Lake. The memories I have of being there help me remember what matters most...the importance of being outdoors, experiencing what nature has to offer, and sharing it with family. I know that part of who I am as an artist has its roots in that rich, Midwestern soil, and I feel most at home surrounded by the scent of tall pine woods and views of sparkling, freshwater lakes.
For as long as I can remember, I 've always loved making things. I studied art history, drawing, and painting in college, but then my focus shifted to raising children and being busy with all the things. But the desire to create art never left...it remained a faint whisper. And when I reached the point where kids were grown and I had more time for myself, I started listening to the call to create. My first love is drawing, so I went to work in my sketchbook. Then I got reacquainted with my acrylic and oil paints and participated in many painting workshops, where I learned from experienced mentors and other artists who encouraged me. I have realized the importance of investing time in my work with regular practice, and my little studio in our home has become my happy place.
I create art that is inspired by the natural world and our deep connection to it. I find that connection by noticing the beauty and truth woven throughout all creation. My goal as I work is to honestly express what I see - finishing my drawing or painting to a point where the life of the subject still shines through. For me, it's a way of reflecting what God has created and gently pointing back to Him...the one who made it all.
I create, in order to discover the art within me, to be at peace with my place in the world, and take hold of what it means to be an artist. I believe this is a truly worthwhile endeavor. Thank you for pausing to take a look.
